History
The Charlotte Regional Realtor® Association Board of Directors understood the potential impact the Association's Charitable Foundation could have on the community. They took the initiative to change the Foundation's name to the Housing Opportunity Foundation in 2003. This step paved the way for the Foundation to be renamed once again to Canopy Housing Foundation in 2019. To facilitate the growth of the funding, the Foundation for the Carolinas established a fund that permitted the investment of "endowed funds" for long-term projects. Through the Canopy Housing Foundation's budget, they are committed to continuing their philanthropic efforts. The Association's dedication to the community is inspiring, and their efforts will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of many.
Funding
The Foundation conducts a Habitat Support Program to fund regional Habitat organizations. The Foundation's second initiative, the Community Grants Program, aids local housing organizations whose Foundation is expanding, improving, and sustaining housing in our community. The Habitat Support Program has awarded over $230,500 since 2007 to regional Habitats. The Community Grants Program has awarded over $267,499.70 since 2009 to local organizations.
